Beetle Bailey and Sergeant Snorkle are chosen to participate in a psychological battle of wits with the champ Sergeant Tortoise.
- Et Tu Otto (Orginally Aired 6/19/1962)
Feeling that his platoon hates him, Sergeant Snorkle seeks the advice of Camp Swampy Chaplain. The Chaplain advises the sergeant to be nice to his men and take an interest in their work and their hobbies. In order to be more of a friend to his platoon, Snorkle helps the men work on their foxholes. But Beetle, Lieutenant Cosmo, Private Killer, Private Zero, Private Rocky and Private Plato believe that their Sergeant has gone nuts and attack him to bring him back to his senses.

Sergeant Snorkle orders Beetle and Zero to stay in the kitchen of Camp Swampy, and not to interfere with General Halftrack's birthday party. Wanting to do something nice for the commanding officer, the boys try to create a big birthday cake for the General. They end up using too much yeast in their dough, and, before long, the base is covered with wall-to-wall birthday cake.

While having dinner at a Chinese restaurant with his fellow soldiers, Beetle’s fortune cookie says he is bad luck and that anyone hanging around with a beetle will have problems befall them.
- Courage Encourager (Orginally Aired 6/21/1964)
Beetle Bailey, the half-asleep soldier who only kept his eyes open for work, and only so he could avoid it. Beetle's main foil at Camp Swampy was Sgt. Orville Snorkel, a tough regular army man who was often bested by Beetle. The commanding officer on the quiet base was the lisping Gen. Halftrack, who concerned himself more with his golf game than with his troops.
